Our Story

Welcome, to the Creston Valley Gleaners Society which is a non-profit organization that gleans from your “hand me down treasures” to the benefit of our community and surrounding areas.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Creston Valley Gleaners is to lend a hand where most needed and to treat with dignity and caring individuals in our community who are less fortunate.

Community Helping Community

Glean (verb)

1.  accumulate something – transitive verb to obtain information in small amounts over a period of time.

2.  gather after harvest – transitive and intransitive verb to go over a field or area that has just been harvested and gather by hand any usable parts of the crop that remain

Gleaner (noun ) – One who gleans

Over 40 years ago, Gleaners was founded for the purpose of “gleaning” gently used articles for resale in order to support our local Creston Food Bank.  Since then, thanks to a giving, caring community, we have become so much more.

Gleaners and Gleaners Too and the food services reside in Creston, BC (a town numbering just over 5,000 people) and each building is a constant hive of activity from 7 am every morning, Monday through Friday, in the sort rooms of the various departments.

Here you will find over 150 volunteers who sort, clean, salvage and allocate a treasure trove of donated products into different categories. Volunteers work can work in a variety of different areas in time allotments that work for their schedule. Volunteers are our first priority, we would not exist if were not for our dedicated volunteer base. We have had several volunteers holding a 20 year service award.

In Creston it is a matter of pride to say…

“I got it at Gleaners” or I gave it to Gleaners”

Gleaners is a wonderful example of community helping community.
